Snow; Friend or Foe?

So, we best get outside today and enjoy b/c the snow may be back tomorrow!  This time of year, with fluctuating temperatures, is hard on Lincoln’s landscape.  Nebraska has one of the harshest climates for plants to survive in, with the freeze-thaw cycles we go through each fall and spring, among other environmental changes.  The snow cover, in my mind, is a friend as the ground is pretty dry & plants can desiccate during the winter months.  Snow also insulates the ground which is beneficial to our landscapes.  As much as it can be a pain to navigate through, these snowfalls can play a critical role to the survivability and thrivability of the trees, shrubs and perennials at our homes and parks!
